Connectional
Connectional ministries are vital to the spiritual life and care of members & guests of SUMC. Members serve primarily within the church walls.
Audio-Visual
Thursdays & Sundays
Provide audio, visual, and communication support for worship services and special events. Requires attention to detail regarding lighting and/or visual media.
Bereavement Dinners
As needed
Support families through the death of loved ones by offering a meal at church, in the family’s home, or at the funeral facility. There are opportunities for preparing food, setting up, cleaning up, and interacting with the family during this life-changing experience.
Children’s Ministry
Sundays
Provide guidance to children as they grow in faith in Jesus Christ, hearing and learning God’s story. This happens in a variety of settings, i.e., Children’s Church and special events, and requires a love of children and teamwork for planning and presentation. Coffee Fellowship
Sunday mornings - The Gathering Place
Expressing hospitality with refreshments and interacting with guests and the church family. Each Sunday coffee and tea are served. The first Sunday of the month Fellowship Cake and coffee (or tea) is available. Serve for set up, mid-morning check, and clean up. Our fellowship builds community and strengthens relationships.
Communion
First Sundays
Preparing the elements (bread and grape juice), setting up, or serving communion at worship services. There are various opportunities to assist in preparation of communion.
Community Meals
First Sundays (not yet re-started)
Enjoy a delicious free brunch and lunch in the Gathering Place. This offers opportunity to relax, have fellowship, and develop relationships around the table. Teams set up, clean up, serve food, and interact with those they serve.
Greeter/Guest Services
Before worship services
Provide a hospitable, welcoming, and helpful attitude at entry doors or at the Guest Services desk.
Music Opportunities
During worship
Share your musical gifts and talents and love for music as worship to God and as a blessing to worshippers. Click here for more.
Student Ministry
Sundays
A variety of gifts are helpful which include being a good listener, having some understanding of middle and/or high school youth, being consistent with a commitment, and acting as a mentor. SUMY (Southport United Methodist Youth) provides opportunities for youth to grow in their discipleship through worship, study, and occasional community service.
Ushers
Before worship services
Provide hospitality by welcoming all to worship and gatherings by assisting with seating, giving direction during communion, and handing out bulletins and other printed materials.
